Blackened Steel Blade Sign for a Heritage Building

The building sits within a heritage conservation area, and the review panel required a projecting sign that referenced the original 1920s ironwork without pastiche.

We drew the bracket from photographs of surviving period examples on the same street, then hand-fabricated it in mild steel with forged scroll detail. The sign panel itself is double-skinned steel with routed copy and a blackened patina finish, sealed with a matte lacquer rather than painted so the material reads honestly.

Fixing was the sensitive part: the bracket mounts through the mortar bed rather than the brick face, using stainless anchors and a stainless backing plate hidden behind the escutcheon.
